Tennis and Cricket on Top of the AGSV Ladder
At the half way mark of the season, both the Boys’ Tennis and Cricket cross campus Firsts teams are on top of the ladder. Both teams have been working diligently under the watchful eyes of Firsts coaches Jeremy McKay (tennis) and Roger Gill (cricket), and their hard work is certainly paying off.
,,
The Tennis team has certainly undergone a rejuvenation over the last few years and this was particularly noticeable last Saturday when two former students, Neil Murthi and Tom Henskens, came along to offer their support for the team.
,,
,, The three senior boys in the current team, namely Ryan Schulz, Nick Jovanovski and Marcel Du Sart, have certainly set the example both on and off the court. In fact, their influence has now generated a culture whereby players value their position on the team. With some big games coming up, much will be expected of all the team in their efforts to stay at the top of the table.
,,
,, Last Saturday the cricket team played against Camberwell for the annual Alan Graham trophy. The team won the toss and batted making 5/273. The early batting was held together by Andrej Yaksender who made an excellent 89, then Kyle Langford and Dan Stanford finished off in fine style with a 90 partnership in the last hour.
,,
,, Stanford finished with 66 no and Langford made 58 off just 29 balls including 7 six`s. Camberwell chased extremely well being 1160 off 37 overs but in the end, the task proved too great and they finished 11 runs short. Mitch Barnewall was particularly impressive finishing with 251 from 13 overs.
,,
We look forward to both teams progressing through the ladder throughout the season.
