T20 Winners
Ivanhoe was crowned overall tournament winner in the Inaugural T20 competition between Trinity Grammar, Camberwell Grammar and Marcellin College. The tournament was hosted by Marcelin and was held on three separate Wednesday’s after school. It allowed each team the opportunity to test their cricketing skills in the short form of the game.
Ivanhoe defeated Marcellin on Wednesday 6 February to remain undefeated (Marcellin 10/115 lost to Ivanhoe 5/116). The game was set up by a terrific, tight bowling performance by the Ivanhoe boys. Three valuable wickets each to Christian Ewings and Nikhil Kumar. James Anderson opened the batting and anchored the innings. The skipper almost got Ivanhoe across the line with a classy 50 runs.
It was a hard-fought match. The game came down to the final delivery where Ivanhoe needed one run to win off the final ball. With high tension around the ground, Wil Buckingham had the responsibility of hitting the winning runs. Wil drove the ball hard to mid-on and took off. With the Marcellin fielder fumbling the ball, Wil and Gabriel Battistella were able to scamper through for the winning single.
The Ivanhoe boys thoroughly enjoyed participating in the tournament and thanks must go to Marcellin College for hosting such a successful event.
