Summer Sport Heading for Exciting Finish
With just two rounds to go, Summer sport is still well placed to finish the season on a high. Both the boys’ badminton and volleyball teams are playing in semi-finals on Saturday 15 March, the boys’ tennis team is sitting on top of the ladder and looks assured of a Grand Final appearance (scheduled for Saturday 22 March) and the girls’ softball team (which currently sits on top of the ladder) plays 2nd placed Haileybury on Saturday 15 March.
A win by the girls would mean that they would have to win their last game (against Carey) to take out back-to-back premierships. However a loss to Haileybury would mean that they not only have to beat Carey but they would also have to rely on Haileybury being defeated by Caulfield in the last round, it’s very tight.
The boys’ badminton team is also looking for a repeat Premiership. However their road to the semis has been a lot more difficult this year and it will take a mighty effort to upstage the hot favourites, Camberwell Grammar School. However, they were the underdogs last year and won. Can history repeat itself?
The volleyball team is venturing into new territory, having not played finals for some years. It appears that their efforts in the national Schools’ Championships in December last year are now paying dividends. Good luck boys!
And finally, the boys’ tennis team has had a terrific year to date, winning all seven matches and facing up against their probable finals opponent, Yarra Valley, in the last match of the regular home and away season. Given a tennis premiership has been elusive since a shared one 29 years ago, it would be a terrific achievement if the boys can go all the way.
