On Wednesday 24 April five Buckley House students qualified for the State Swimming Championships held at the MSAC pool in Albert Park. The boys qualified for the event by winning the Northern Region Championships late in Term 1.
The State Swimming Championships pits the eight regional winners from around Metropolitan and Country Victoria in one race to decide the Victorian State Champion. The five students were Oliver, Louis, Joel, Oscar and Michael, they qualified for both the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay and also the 4x 50m Medley Relay. Louis also qualified for the individual 50m Breastroke.
The event started off in a great fashion for the School with Louis claiming 3rd place and a Bronze medal in the Breastroke in a personal best time of 42.53 seconds.
The relay teams also both swam personal best times, being at the event it was easy to see how the boys could swim great times with such strong competition and the wonderful swimming facilities at MSAC. The Medley relay swam next and came 7th in a very fast race. The Freestyle relay was our last event and the boys did a wonderful job to finish 5th in the state and swim a 7-second personal best, finishing with a time of 2:28.
That event concluded a big swimming program that started way back at the start of the year! We now look forward to our Cross Country season and lots of Aerobic training sessions as part of our Cardiovascular Fitness program in Term 2.
