Sports Report
In front of a decent crowd at Trinity Grammar School, our boys’ basketballers recorded one of their best wins with a comprehensive 19 point victory. Mackenzie Graham played a superb captain’s game, while Matt Debney, Bailey Leonard, Rhys Begeman and Erik Kafritsas created plenty of opportunities. A BIG game now looms against arch-rivals Marcellin.
Our boys’ tennis team fought gallantly to record a win against Mentone and move into their fifth successive Grand Final! Although the final score looked like it was an easy victory, the individual score lines showed most players won hard-fought games and we hope this test of character will be a valuable rehearsal for the Grand Final.
Unfortunately, our boys’ badminton and table tennis teams just couldn’t get the break they needed against two very strong Camberwell teams. As Mr Peter Hodge pointed out, ‘the boys fought for every point and the final score didn’t reflect the contest. We can be very proud of our 1sts teams’.
The girls’ volleyball team fought hard to beat a determined PEGS outfit. As such, and although it is not a Grand Final as such, this undefeated team will take on Peninsula in the last round of the year to win the AGSV/APS Premiership. We wish Tanya McInerney (coach) and all the girls the very best for this most important game of the season.
One of the most pleasing results from the weekend was our girls’ tennis team. Depleted by illness and injury, some girls were asked to step up and take on the challenge…and they did so with sheer determination and great Ivanhoe spirit, defeating Geelong Grammar School. Great effort, and great sporting spirit.
