Sports Report

Boys Teams finish 2017 in style!

Although we only had three of the 6 Firsts boys’ teams playing last Saturday, all were successful.

Once again, our cricketers were almost denied a victory when dark clouds enveloped Chelsworth Park late Saturday afternoon. Fortunately, the rain stayed away and the boys maintained their focus and dismissed Peninsula in the 47th over to record a comprehensive win against the competition leaders.

Conroy Burton (65no) batted throughout our innings to steer our score to a respectable 7/212. He was well supported by skipper Jesse King (24) and an aggressive Matt Johnson (28 off just 22 balls).

First gamers, Adam McKern (4/24) and Will Rutley (16 off just 17 balls) both performed creditably.

In tennis, we recorded our 4th straight win in succession which places us 2nd on the table below pre-competition favourites PEGS.

And in basketball, it was another tight finish. Fortunately, with Mackenzie Graham and Matt Debney leading the way, we held our composure to record a two-point victory.

Unlike our boys’ basketball boys, (who had a narrow win) our girls’ tennis team were defeated by the smallest possible margin, just one game!! In winning the last singles match, we finished 8 sets all against Geelong College and the final result reverted to games won!

Our softball girls went down against Caulfield who were simply too strong with their state pitcher controlling the game. However, despite the loss, Brooke Hutton continued her good form with some great fielding.

And finally, our volleyball girls won convincingly, 3 sets to nil against Caulfield. With 3 good wins to date, the girls sit on top of the ladder leading into the Christmas break.

In a tight tussle, our girls’ badminton team recorded a great win against Geelong Grammar, winning by just one rubber!
