Sports Report
It was a weekend of tight finishes!
Three of the weekend’s games produced nail-biting finishes – and Ivanhoe came out on top each time.
In cricket, the boys worked hard to get to 9/193, thanks to the contributions of Captain, Jesse King (58) and Vice-Captain James Wigginton (53). In reply, Mentone looked on track for victory but some fine bowling from Ed Stock (6/32) and James Anderson kept the pressure on and eventually Mentone was dismissed in the last over, just two runs short of our total. This narrow victory keeps us in equal 4th spot and close to another finals appearance.
Our basketball boys also had the narrowest of victories, defeating Mentone by just one point, 47 to 46. Captain Mackenzie Graham was once again pivotal to the win, as was his father, David who stood in as Head Coach for the game. A terrific team effort all ’round.
In softball, the girls threw off a late challenge from Carey to sneak over the line, 11 to 10. Emma Sands played well at 3rd base and hit the ball well, and Julia Moorhen (pitcher) and Cecilia Baldassarre (1st base) both performed admirably. This was a great win and keeps the team in 2nd place on the ladder.
The girls’ tennis team was outstanding in their win over Carey, winning 12 sets to 4 and our boys’ tennis team defeated Mentone 13-3.
In Volleyball, both our girls’ and boys’ teams have continued their winning ways with good wins against Carey and Peninsula respectively, and both are on track for Premiership glory!
And to top off a good weekend in sport, our girls’ touch team defeated Caulfield. Well done girls!
