Sport Update
After a slow start to the season, Ivanhoe’s Boys’ Soccer team came back with a terrific effort against last year’s premiers, Marcellin. The boys started with a goal in the first 30 seconds of play, and despite some solid play from Marcellin, the Ivanhoe boys held their nerve and in fact stretched the lead to 5-2 in the latter part of the game. This was a terrific effort considering the performance in Round one.
In Football, the Boys’ Team had a commanding win over an undermanned Camberwell. Leading at every break, the boys made the most of the 2nd and 4th quarters when they had the wind, scoring a combined total of 20 goals in these quarters.
In Basketball, the Girls’ Team came out of the gates feeling confident after their nail biter the weekend before. They built an 8 point lead early but just couldn’t shake off a determined opponent. Once the opposition’s tall players got into foul trouble, we were able to control the last part of the game to record a good victory.
In Netball, the Girls’ Team put together their best team effort for the year and recorded a good win against a strong opponent in Wesley. The Girls were focused and determined to beat Wesley, the only team they lost to last year. Every player gave their all, displaying great skills and creativity. There is definitely a strong sense that this team is now on a mission.
,, In Girls’ soccer, the team were gallant in defeat. Noura, Sophie and Shelby led by example and ensured we stayed within reach, but unfortunately Geelong were just a little too good on the day.
