Sport Report
In an excellent all-round display, where the rucking was excellent and the defending outstanding, the girls’ touch team totally outplayed their opponents to score a good win. While the midfield remained steady all day, it was the great communication upfield that helped create many scoring opportunities and enabled us to enjoy a terrific victory. Freya Henriksen and Mia Ioannou were once again pivotal to our win, as too were Tapu Nicol and Avena Henriksen who made solid contributions.
Our tennis boys showed their class in a dominant display against Assumption College. While it was expected that our ‘top-end’ players would show the way, the form of our younger members in the team was most encouraging.
Our boys’ basketball team remains 2nd on the ladder with a very good win against lower placed Assumption College. The boys worked extremely hard in all aspects of the game, having learnt from mistakes made in the previous week’s game. Will Moio stood out at both ends of the court, scoring 17 points and having several defensive involvements as well.
In girls’ volleyball, the girls made it back to back wins with a convincing 3 to nil victory against Carey. Hopefully, this win will be the catalyst to some good performances in the upcoming All School Volleyball Competition on the Gold Coast in December.
In two surprising results, our girls’ softball team and our 1st X1 cricketers were beaten quite convincingly by Yarra Valley Grammar and Assumption College respectively.
In softball, our pitchers could not find the plate and enabled Yarra Valley Grammar some easy runs. Conversely, we had only one innings where we were able to hit well but our offensive was short-lived as we could not place any pressure on the Yarra Valley Grammar batters.
Unfortunately, our cricketers were outplayed by an aggressive Assumption College outfit but despite this Bilal Kahan (4/57) and Tom Mileto (41) played well on the day.
