Softball Girls Smash Their Way to a Convincing Win

In their first hit-out for the season, the softball girls showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with, easily accounting for Geelong Grammar with 15 run win.

Ably led by shortstop and captain, Brooklyn Hutton, all of the girls showed a glimpse of their potential with some good hitting, sharp base running and solid infield work. Georgia Black and Georgia Sands both pitched well, while Caitlin Olley was superb behind the plate.

Our cricketers were equally impressive with a convincing win in very difficult conditions. Having been sent in to bat, we were on the back foot a little at 3/66. However, a partnership of 39 between Ikroop Dhanoa (73 no) and Daniel Gikovski (22) and another partnership of 47 between Dhanoa and Mason Hogg (21) helped us to a reasonable total of 203. Peninsula started the run chase very aggressively (they were 61 off just 11 overs); however 2 wickets to Bilal Khan in consecutive overs shifted the momentum somewhat, and with some tight bowling from Dhanoa (3/27) and Tom Mileto (4/29), we were able to have a convincing win.

In basketball, the boys started slowly but quickly recovered in the second quarter to have a lead of 16 points by half time. Matt Debney had another exceptional game and was very well supported by David Waldron and Erik Kafritsas.  After two solid wins to start the season, the boys have now put themselves in a good position and sit on top of the ladder alongside Marcellin and Mentone.

Our boys’ volleyball team have also started the season well, defeating Mentone in a titanic struggle, 3 sets to 2.
