Snowsports Season
Congratulations to our Snowsports Team on a successful season. Terms 2 and 3 have been busy with more than 80 students from across the school participating in a wide selection of our program offerings this year.
Students prepared themselves for snow training and events and learnt the importance of strength and conditioning specific to Snowsports through our early morning pre-season training for our Alpine Team and afternoon Roller Ski training for our XC Team. The on-snow training provided opportunities for some of our students to have first-time snow experiences along with providing further development of skills to our regular Snowsports students. Our dedicated coaches at Mt Buller Ski School have supported and guided our students through their on-mountain training honing their skills and snow awareness.
This year the Snowsports Team had one of the largest numbers of entries we have seen in recent times competing at the Victorian Interschools Championships contributing to the massive participation numbers this year of 6600 students on the mountain competing at Mt Buller from 21-27 August and 6 August (XC Interschools). Our Division 3 Girls Team (Years 7-8) was our largest team with 12 competitors (Isabella, Ruby, Sophia, Zara, Claudia, Lucy, Amelia, Coco, Sammy, Alice, Ada and Sadie).
A big congratulations to all our students on another successful Interschools competition. Everyone supported one another and achieved some wonderful results with the most important one being participation.
Notable results this year included:
Vaughan Joslyn – Gold Medal – Multiclass
Seb Packer Smith – 3rd place XC Classic Individual
Seb Packer Smith, Thomas Moore and Kieran Pavey – 5th placed Team in both the Classic and the Freestyle XC relay.
Jake Feenstra – 4th place in Snowboard GS
Thank you to our Team Managers, Volunteers, Families, Teacher in Charge Murray Gill and support staff Viktor Svarcs who rallied around and supported the team throughout the busy Interschools week, making sure students arrived on time and volunteer roles were filled. Sadly, this year we are saying goodbye to our long-time Snowsports member Helen Page-Wood who has been a backbone of support to the team. Helen’s support and dedication to the team over the years is greatly appreciated. As the season comes to a close, I would like to thank all our families, committee members, Snowsports Captain Sebastian Packer-Smith & Teacher in Charge Murray Gill and support staff who have been a part of Snowsports Season 2023.
See you all again in Season 2024.
