Small Business Week
On Monday 18 to Friday 22 July Year 11 Business Management students operated five Small Business Enterprises during Recess and Lunch Times.
,, Last Semester students studied topics such as; Market Research, Legal Requirements, Financial Management and Advertising. This gave them an insight into what products customers at Plenty Campus would be interested in purchasing. After a detailed Business Plan was submitted – the five businesses were born ready to operate with 27 students in total participating.
A Commerce Faculty Loan of $30 was given to each group – the groups then needed to deal with various suppliers and Ivanhoe Grammar Facilities Staff to get costs down ready for opening week. Business names ranged from Sparkle and Shine to Sweetz to name a few. After the loan was paid back, $1040 was profit and this is being donated to the Pat Cronin Foundation (https://www.patcroninfoundation.org.au/).
The Students should be commended for their entrepreneurial skills and the ability to put the curriculum to work in this setting. It was a great success and the students really enjoyed the experience and the new skills they aquired over the week.
