Primary Interschool Sports Athletics 2022 Season

Primary students had a very successful Interschool Sports Athletics 2022 season.

On Wednesday 2 November, primary students attended the State Championships at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park. Our amazing team consisted of students who qualified and advanced through to the top level of competition for their age groups. Ivanhoe fielded three relay teams and five individual athletes. This event never seems to amaze as there is always so much ability and talent on display in the young athletes in the State! The standard and level are always so high, amazing results happen all the time in front of your eyes.

For our students to get there was a great effort, to get some strong results was even more amazing. Our Under 11 Buckley House Boys Relay team was up against some amazing opponents. They ran the same time in their heat as they did at the Regional Championships which unfortunately didn’t get them into the Final.

The Under 12 Plenty Campus Girls Relay team did a great job finishing third in their heat and qualifying for the final. They had a tough race in the final, experiencing some unfortunate interference, but battled on finishing 7th overall in the State. The Under 10 Boys Buckley House Relay team qualified 7th in the heat to advance to the final, and this is where some magic happened! The boys ran a 2-second personal best, executing perfect baton changeovers and were able to claim second place and the silver medal. Incredible considering, they qualified in 7th place!

Sophia in the Under 12G 100m sprint qualified for the final and was super proud knowing she was the 10th fastest Primary School girl in Victoria! Louis came 8th in the U11 1500m event running a personal best time. Andrew and Jim ran in the 80m Hurdles and came 6th and 11th respectively.

Possibly the biggest highlight of the day was Leonardo, winning the U11 Boys Long Jump and the State Gold Medal! Leonardo saved his best until the last jump of the day to tie the leader on 4.44m (a new school record!) and he was announced the winner on countback considering his 2nd best jump was bigger than the other competitor!

All in all, it was a great day culminating at around 5:30 pm with the relay finals. Ivanhoe Grammar School is very proud of the 12 primary athletes who competed on the day.
