We are so very proud to announce our immediate past Chairman of the Board of Governors, and past parent, Mr Peter Kempen has been acknowledged in the Queen’s Birthday Awards for significant service to his community. He was made an Honorary Member in the General Division (AM) for significant service to the community, through executive roles with a range of health organisations, to education, and to the accountancy profession.
Peter retired in 2017 after eighteen years of valuable and loyal service to the School as Chairman of the Board. A great believer of independent education Peter was also a Director of the Association of Independent Schools of Australia and a Director and Chairman of the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria.
Peter’s association with the School began in 1989 when he and wife Elaine enrolled their son Kristian in Year 9. Drew followed in 1992. It may have ended in 1997 when Drew completed Year 12 but in 1998 Peter was invited to join the Board of Governors assuming the role of Chairman in 2000.
Under his guidance the School underwent tremendous physical development, all made possible through a respectful and knowledgeable working relationship between Peter and the Board, together with Principals Rod Fraser and Gerard Foley, and senior members of the School staff.
A chartered accountant by profession and Managing Partner of Ernst and Young Corporate Finance Australia when taking the role as Chairman, Peter’s expertise and leadership was invaluable in creating a strong fiscal foundation to enable the School to undertake major development works over the ensuing years.
Current Chairman of the Board Daniel Proietto congratulated Peter on behalf of the School community.
"Peter's award as a Member in the Order of Australia is fantastic recognition for his many years of selfless community service. In addition to his various other voluntary roles, Peter served on the Board of Governors at Ivanhoe Grammar School for 18 years, 17 of them as Chairman. His service to the School has been immense, and I am delighted that he has been recognised with this richly deserved honour."
