October Sports News
An October sports update from Buckley House.
Years 3/4 Basketball
The Boys’ and Girls’ Year 4 Basketball Teams went to the Region Hoop Time Basketball tournament last week. They competed brilliantly for the school winning games and playing in fantastic spirit. It was a very tough competition being a regional championship and unfortunately, the girls didn’t win enough games to go through to the next level. However, in very exciting news, the boys won all their games and qualified for the State Hooptime Basketball championships in November.
Years 5/6 Boys’ Basketball
The Boys’ Year 5/6 Basketball team qualified for the Banyule Division finals after winning the Ivanhoe District Championships. They played two games at the division titles, defeating Rossana Golf Links in the first match, then going down narrowly to the eventual winners Bundoora Primary School in the second game. The boys played hard and did their best on the day, but it wasn’t to be!
Northern Region Athletics
Congratulations to nine athletes who made it all the way to the Northern Region Athletics championships. This event takes in hundreds of schools from a quarter of Melbourne, which is why it can be a tough meet. We took five individual athletes and a relay team. The boys’ relay team didn’t make the final however ran very well. All our individual athletes medaled by coming in the Top 3 in their events which is an amazing achievement. Unfortunately only the Top 2 qualify for the State Finals which left us with two students getting through. Congratulations to Tyson Nagel who came 2nd in the Under 11 Boys 1500m and Callum Peden who came 1st in the Under 10 200m. Both boys will go to the State Finals at Albert Park later this month. Good luck boys!
Ivanhoe District Finals – Years 5/6 Volleyball
Well done to both our Years 5/6 Girls’ and Years 5/6 Boys’ Volleyball teams for making the Grand Final of the Ivanhoe District this week. The girls came Runners-Up to a very strong St. Anthony’s Primary School. However the boys did a great job to win the Grand Final 2-0 against Alphington Primary School and go onto the Regional Championships later this month. Good luck boys!
Ivanhoe District Finals – Years 5/6 Softball

Mr Coleman has worked hard with these girls and they were very excited to easily win the Grand final 16-6. They are off to the Division Finals next week to try to get to the Regional and/or State Finals.
