Library & Information Week
The Ridgeway Library celebrated Library & Information Week recently with lots of fun activities and competitions for staff and students to take part in. This year’s theme was ‘Adventures in space and time’ and Dr Who was the focus of our displays.
Students had fun with a lolly wrapper ‘spiral universe’ challenge with Year 7 student Mark winning the challenge, having the longest spiral at 116cm. Staff and students also entered an online competition to see if they could correctly identify six famous ‘Time Travellers’. All correct entries went into the draw and the winners were Year 10 student James and staff-member Hannah.
Keen library users voted for their favourite time travel machine, kooky time travel photo and best time travel book and movie pairings. Year 7 students enjoyed watching Dr Who’s “Silence in the Library” movie at lunchtime. Students also got creative and made a 3D print-out of a Goggly eyed bookmark. They loved being able to design and create in cyberspace as a way of having a different kind of adventure in space and time.
Care packages were given to staff who borrow and read a lot and their appreciative messages really made our day.
‘When days are busy, and our workload is huge, occasionally you receive a kind word, or gesture or in this case a beautiful surprise. Thank you so much for my library pamper pack- you are so very thoughtful and kind. It made my day. I love our library…it’s my happy workplace.’
‘ I just wanted to say thanks for my Library ‘gift bag’. What a lovely and well thought out surprise – I feel like I should be giving you all one as you are always so helpful and friendly. Don’t know what I’ll do when I eventually leave as there’s no library like the Ivanhoe library.’
