House Cross Country Championships
On Wednesday 4 May Buckley House ran their annual House Cross Country Championships at Chelsworth Park. After a poor weather forecast in the days leading up to the event, the afternoon turned out to be sunny and made way for a wonderful time for all the Years 3-6 students to compete.
Students raced in 1km, 2km or 3km races depending on their age and aerobic abilities. All runners felt special wearing the electronic bibs like real Marathon runners that were supplied by Tomato Timing who helped us conduct the event.
Whichever race students were in, all competitors who finished the course received valuable points for their house depending on when and in what position they crossed the finish line.
It was great to see the children in their house colours cheering for their fellow team members regardless of their age or ability. All children who finished received a little laminated token to remind them what their placing was. Many of the students commented that they were just proud of themselves and their friends for taking part and finishing the course.
Ohh… the scores… Sherwood just pipped Athelstane, with Lincoln 3rd and Thoresby 4th.
We are now at the peak of Cross Country season and all students who finished in the top 10 of the longer races qualified for the school team which will run next week in the Ivanhoe District Championships, at Chelsworth Park. Buckley House will have just over 50 students in the team at the District Championships next week, good luck to all our team members as they strive to run a ‘Personal Best’ and/or finish in the Top 10 to qualify for the Banyule Division Championships in the coming weeks.
