French Poetry Competition
On Thursday 5 June, Year 7 and 8 students took part in the annual Berthe Mouchette French Poetry Competition conducted by the Alliance Francaise de Melbourne (AFM). Created in 1894, the competition attracts thousands of candidates each year who bring French poetry to life through recitals.
At the beginning of Term 2 each student is assigned a poem which they must memorise and recite in front of an external examiner. All participants receive a certificate and prizes are awarded to the first, second and third place winners of each level. Many students remember their poems in years to come with one former Ivanhoe Grammar School student remembering his poem from the early 90’s!
After many weeks of preparation a number of Year 7 students received a perfect poetry recital result, which is a fantastic achievement. These students will then participate in the final recitation held at the Alliance Francaise on Sunday 27 July.
Ivanhoe Grammar School encourages international awareness among students by developing an international mindset and cultural understanding. An international Language is offered to students from the Early Learning Centre right up to Year 12.
