Energy Breakthrough
The Energy Breakthrough camp was held over four days from Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 November in Maryborough, Victoria. The program provides students, teachers, and parents with the opportunity to collaborate on the design of a vehicle, a machine or innovation that represents an energy breakthrough.
Energy Breakthrough, running since 1991, is a joint initiative between the Country Education Partnership (CEP) and the Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC). Teams compete in three assessment areas – Design and Construction, Display and Presentation and Trials- with teams working on their projects throughout the year to design, build and test their vehicles. The latest technology is utilised with consideration of the impact on the environment. The whole project culminates in a thrilling event held in Maryborough.
Despite the many challenges, students and support staff collaborated to overcome all obstacles with grit and extraordinary determination completing the event with an average speed of 29.7 kph over the 18+ hours of run time, completing an incredible 543km! The Ivanhoe team was awarded the Judy Parker Best New School Award with organisers commenting on the good sportsmanship, camaraderie, compassion and support that Ivanhoe had shown.
‘The Energy Breakthrough (EB) program is the coming together of people, working towards common goals to overcome challenges and find satisfaction in supporting our fellow Ivanarian – never has this been truer than for the 2022 Energy Breakthrough team,’ said Teacher Paul Briggs.
We are very proud of the team and can’t wait to see what they come up with next year!
