ELICOS Graduates
On Monday 28 May a very special graduation ceremony was held for our International students in the International Centre. At the ceremony, students were given graduation certificates and celebrated for completing the English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) program. Upon completion, students move into mainstream which is a big rite of passage for our International students as they transition into the wider School community.
Our International students experience a steep learning curve when they first come to Ivanhoe, not only integrating into a new country with new customs and a new culture but also rising to the challenge of mastering English as well.
Some of our recent graduates had this to say about the experience:
I studied in the ELICOS Program for three months. It was hard for me at times, however, I also learned a lot. I understand the importance of punctuality which is a very important characteristic for people. I also learned about respect and that this is not just a word, you really need to put this into action and show respect for others. I also learned about the need for self-discipline. (Bob Feng)
I learnt about the routines of School and how to make new friends. I think the ELICOS Program is a really good prelude for us to get ready for Mainstream and allows us to get used to study and life in Melbourne. I feel really excited about moving to Mainstream, is a new life for me to study with local students and talk to them all day. I have made a lot of friends here and I feel I am ready for Mainstream now. (Clark Z)
