Cricketers Gear Up for UK Cricket Tour
On the night of Tuesday 4 June, 13 students and their parents attended a presentation evening to finalise arrangements for the UK Cricket Tour. A highlight of the evening was the inspirational and informative talk by Simon Helmot who has just returned from the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a coach with the Hyderabad Sunrisers.
Simon was able to give the boys an intimate appraisal of the likes of David Warner (who played with the Sunrisers), Aaron Finch (who captained the Renegades when Simon was coaching them) and Glen Maxwell (who he coached with Victoria).
He was also able to provide an insight into the conditions that the boys should expect in England and Scotland.
At the conclusion of his talk, Simon presented the boys with their cricket gear including a backpack, cricket shirts, their cricket vest and the School cap.
The tour party, including Mr Luke Lochran and Mr Les Dahl, will depart Melbourne on Wednesday night, 12 June and will arrive in Edinburgh the next day. They will then travel to the top of Scotland (Gordonstoun) and work their way down to London before they return home in early July.
Along the way, they will play 10 games against a variety of schools and visit some of the legendary sights such as Edinburgh Castle, London Bridge and Big Ben. Other highlights will include a stop-over at St Andrews Golf Course, a visit to Manchester United’s home ground and attendance at Australia A’s one day game in Derby.
With the World Cup being played simultaneously, and a Test Series to follow in the UK, there is no doubt that the “cricket hype” that the boys will encounter will provide a catalyst to a great tour.
