Cadet Dinner
On Tuesday evening, 4 June, 74 Year 12 Cadets and their families gathered at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to celebrate their final formal activity as members of the Ivanhoe Grammar School Cadet Unit. Joining them were guests and dignitaries from the current school community, Military guests, and former cadet alumni.
The evening was an acknowledgement of a four-year journey for this very high-quality group, in a formal, yet enjoyable night, where every cadet was individually recognised for their effort and commitment. The Senior CUO’s from both campuses, Tom Salomon and Edward Darby, gave personal reflections of their time in the Unit, before proposing toasts to the Ivanhoe Cadet Unit, and the Australian Army Cadets.
A special highlight of the evening was the formal farewells conducted for Mrs Virginia Creed, and Mrs Rita Dawe, two school cadet staff members, who have devoted many years of dedicated service to our cadets, and are now retiring from their roles.
A special note of thanks goes to our logistics Officer, Major Hans Vanzwol, OAM, who once again gave of his time tirelessly in order to ensure that the traditions and customs of the evening were on show for all to see. His role in the success of the unit cannot be underestimated.
As we farewell this current generation of outstanding young cadets, we look forward to the next generation stepping up and continuing to meet the benchmarks established by this wonderful group.
