Aquatic and Wellness Centre Breaks New Ground

On Wednesday 13 September, a special Ground Breaking Ceremony was held to mark the beginning of the construction of the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre at Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Plenty Campus. The School is delighted to embark on this new development with Building Engineering and architects Peddle Thorp. This fantastic development will incorporate a state-of-the-art Aquatic and Wellness Centre, featuring two new pools, change facilities, multipurpose rooms, and a gymnasium. It also includes the construction of new outdoor sports facilities, comprising nine tennis courts, an artificial hockey pitch, and a new turf soccer pitch.

The special ceremony was attended by students and staff in front of the gymnasium. Principal Gerard Foley, Deputy Principal/Head of Plenty Campus Fiona Devlin and Deputy Principal/Head of Ridgeway Campus Tom Rickards turned the sod, alongside Building Engineering’s Directors Chris Doufas and Tom Basel.

Located at the heart of Plenty Campus the Aquatic and Wellness Centre will seamlessly integrate with the school’s existing facilities. Students and staff are excited to see the project come to fruition in 2025 with Principal Gerard Foley saying, “It is wonderful to see this project coming to fruition. We’re thrilled to have Building Engineering onboard; they’ve been fantastic partners on multiple projects. This marks their third project here at our Plenty Campus, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership on this exciting journey. It’s an exciting day, and we anticipate the grand opening of this complex in  April 2025 with great enthusiasm.”

The school community has been eagerly anticipating this new development which will include:

    • Aquatic facilities: The Aquatic Centre will house both a Learn to Swim pool and a 25-meter pool, complete with modern and spacious changing room facilities. These pools will serve as a cornerstone for aquatic education, training, and recreational activities within the school community.
    • Wellness Centre: The Wellness Centre will feature a well-equipped gymnasium, providing students and staff with a dedicated space for physical fitness and well-being. Additionally, four multi-use classrooms will be integrated into this space, offering flexibility for various educational and fitness programs.
    • Outdoor sports facilities: The project will extend beyond the indoor spaces, with the construction of nine new tennis courts, an artificial hockey pitch, and a new turf soccer pitch

Deputy Principal/Head of Plenty Campus Fiona Devlin reflected on the importance of this new development, saying, “I can’t wait for our students and staff to be able to use these wonderful facilities to enhance their physical, mental and academic wellbeing.”

We look forward to the completion of this fantastic development and know that the Aquatic and Wellness Centre will benefit many generations to come.
