Annual Cadet Dinner
On the evening of Thursday 7 June, the School Cadet Unit held its 57th Annual Dinner. This was a very special occasion, as it marked the first official engagement for the unit’s new Honorary Colonel, LTCOL David Waugh, RFD. Other special guests included the Commander of the Victorian Head Quarters, Australian Army Cadets, Colonel Jason Cooke, the Commanding Officer of the Melbourne University Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Gerard O’Shea, and Nigel Kendall, the unit Patron.
The dinner also saw the largest ever group of Year 12 Cadets attend their final activity as members of the unit, 74 in all. A welcome speech by the Principal, Gerard Foley, highlighted the camaraderie, leadership and role modelling demonstrated by this group as they led the Cadet unit through some challenging experiences throughout the year, reflecting upon the observation that, no matter how difficult things became, they worked together to achieve their goals.
The Senior Cadet Under Officers, Hugh Marslen and Mika Facchinnetti also reflected upon their personal journeys and the achievements of the cadet unit as a whole.
The Ivanhoe Grammar Cadet Unit continues to uphold the values and ethos of the school and the legacy that the current Year 12 members leave will ensure future success for the young men and women who follow in their steps.
