2021 AGSV Combined Swimming Championships
On Friday 19 March, our school swim team competed with great enthusiasm and considerable talent in the 2021 AGSV Combined Swimming Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre.
The night was filled with some incredible results, with many of our swimmers lifting for some amazing personal bests. They gave their all for one another. Some swimming up age groups and others swam events outside their comfort zone, all to ensure that the team had the very best chance of success. It was an exciting night, with very close and competitive racing. The boys’ swim team swam their hearts out to achieve a fantastic fourth place. The girls’ swim team were in the hunt for the premiership the whole night. Every place in every race counted as Mentone and Ivanhoe kept trading places at the top. It came down to the very last, exciting race and the girls’ team were able to hold on and win an amazing premiership by one point!
Winning aside, as a community, we are incredibly proud of all of the swimmers. Whether they swam on the night or not, all of the swimmers were a part of what was a successful and fun season. With no competition in 2020, this year just seemed to mean so much more and we are thrilled with the passion and dedication that everyone involved showed for their school. Swimming is not an easy sport and it takes considerable commitment and time to be a successful swimmer. Many, many hours of training, often before others have stumbled out of bed.
We are thankful to our swimmers and also to their families for the sacrifices they make to be at their best and compete for the School. Your dedication is unquestionable. To the Year 12 swimmers, thank you for your contribution to your sport over many years. You have strongly added to the tradition and culture within your team.
