Sport Report

Our girls’ softball team continued their winning streak with a convincing win against Haileybury. Georgia Sands was once again impressive at first base and on the pitching plate, as too were Brooklyn Hutton (short stop) and Caitlin Olley (catcher).

The boys’ cricket team had an enthralling battle against Marcellin, winning in the 46th over with 4 wickets in hand. This tight fought win came off the back of some terrific individual performances from our three Year 10 boys, Tom Mileto (61 no), Angus Drysdale (58) and Mitch Lawson (27).

Our boys’ tennis and table tennis continued their good starts to the season with the tennis boys winning a tight battle against Marcellin and our table tennis boys exerting their strength against Yarra Valley.

In touch football, our girls’ team played really well to score some well set up tries, as well as having a few individuals who displayed great speed and deception. All the girls played with confidence, positive attitudes and with a willingness to take on the opposition to score. They stuck together as a team when defending and rucked hard to get to our attacking end. Overall a well-played game by all.

Our boys’ volleyball team had a tight tussle against Yarra Valley and despite losing in 3 sets, the scores did not reflect the evenness of the match. Yarra had a very tall team and played their best game for the year. This was a good learning curve for our young team and it proved that we are very capable of causing a few upsets and being competitive at the top end of the competition.

Our girls’ volleyball also had a good win against Peninsula to get their season up and running!

In boys’ basketball, we were facing arguably the pre-season favourites in Marcellin and things weren’t going well when we found ourselves 12 points down early in the 2nd quarter. However, the team worked hard to claw back the margin and we went into the half time break just 6 points down. With some outstanding leadership shown by Alek Bandilovski, the team was relentless in its endeavours and we looked strong going into the final quarter. The 4th quarter saw some awesome teamwork and we were only down by 3 points with 10 seconds remaining. Jackson Bennett took the final shot but unfortunately, it wasn’t our day. Overall, a terrific team effort.
