AGSV Combined Athletics Championships
The 2019 AGSV Combined Athletics Championships was held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park on Wednesday 11 September. It was another significant day at the athletics track with over 100 students representing Ivanhoe Grammar School.
As always, both the boys and girls team gave it their all in their attempts to achieve a personal best and contribute to the Schools first genuine attempt at winning both the boys and girls premierships in the same season. For the second year in succession and for the third time in the School’s history, the boys and girls teams combined to be the highest overall scoring team.
There were many outstanding performances and personal bests achieved, such as Year 10 student Alessia Wynne who broke many records on the day, has represented the School in twenty events in her four years at the School and has also enjoyed twenty victories. When it comes to silverware though, the School left empty-handed, despite a staggering number of outstanding performances. The final margins were incredibly close with the boys trailing Marcellin by 14 points at the end and the girls trailing Mentone by 9 when the final event was run.
Overall, it was a great competition and a significant day as the AGSV Centenary was officially launched with the new centenary flag unveiled. The flag will return to the stadium at Albert Park after visiting all nine member schools in 12 months to make the 100th running of the Boys Athletics Championships.
