Ivanhoe District Sport Finals
The Ivanhoe District Years 5 & 6 spring season came to an end on Friday 13 September, with the semi and grand finals taking place. Throughout all of Term 3, the ten schools in the IDSSA played against each other on Friday afternoons to decide the finalists. The spring season saw each school enter six teams, one team each in the six different sports of Girls’ Soccer 7s, Boys’ Soccer 7s, Girls’ Bat Tennis, Boys’ Bat Tennis, Girls’ Volleyball and Boys’ Volleyball.
All our teams are to be commended on their levels of endeavour and sportsmanship. Each student trained regularly before school on Tuesdays from 7:30am, displaying a great level of commitment to the sport and their team. Our coaches are to be commended for their extra efforts and all the things they do to ensure the success of the season for all.
Our two soccer teams battled admirably all season and ended up around the middle of the table just missing the finals. Our two bat tennis teams and our two volleyball teams finished in the top three and went straight into the finals.
The finals were all played at Alphington Grammar School with the semi-finals played around midday. Unbelievably all our four teams won their semi-final and advanced to the grand final in the afternoon.
Our bat tennis teams were both up against very strong teams from Ivanhoe East Primary School in the grand final. Unfortunately both our teams lost their grand finals in close contests.
Both our volleyball teams made the grand finals and our girls’ team got things off to a wonderful start winning their grand final easily 2 sets to 0 against Ivanhoe Primary School. To finish off the day the boys played a nail-biting 3 set final, winning the 1st set but losing the 2nd against St Anthony’s. In a tense 3rd set the boys played some of their best volleyball and came out victorious to give us the volleyball double. Once again, the players were super excited and proud of their efforts. Congratulations to all of the players on a successful spring season of sport.
