Mernda Rail Sneak Peek Event
On a blustery, winter’s day our students performed in front of a large and appreciative audience at the sneak peek event for the new Mernda rail extension before services officially commence on Sunday 26 August.
This project has extended the rail line from South Morang to Mernda with three new stations and will connect one of Melbourne’s fastest growing areas. This much-needed project involved building eight kilometres of rail line in Melbourne’s north, three new state-of-the-art stations, walking and cycling paths and up to 2,000 car parking spaces around the stations.
It was a fabulous day and there was a buzz in the air as the local community, for the first time, got the chance to explore the new stations and ride on the free shuttle trains. The three new stations, Middle Gorge, Hawkstowe and Mernda were opened simultaneously from 12.00pm to 3.00pm.
Traders and community groups were involved in providing entertainment and food. Hot food and coffee were on offer alongside activities for kids such as face painting, smoothie bikes, animal farms and a silent disco.
A big thank you to the student performers, DLMR, 2019 and the Primary Rock Band who were outstanding on the day and the staff and parents who braved the cold to support this important community event.
