Sports Report
It was fantastic to see four of our girls’ teams have good wins on the weekend. With one round to go, our Firsts netball, soccer and basketball teams are now well placed to finish in the top half of the competition. And our Senior girls’ football team had their 5th win of the season and have now worked their way into the top 4. A big congratulations to all these teams and coaches for working so hard to secure these positions in their competitions.
Unfortunately, our boys’ hockey team couldn’t repeat their magnificent performance from last season and will have to wait for next season to have another chance at a Premiership. As Ed Smithers (Teacher in charge of Hockey) wrote in his report: “ This was a sensational effort by the Ivanhoe team. We were finally overcome by a very strong PEGS outfit but not before we gave them a good scare with a disciplined effort by the whole team. My congratulations to all Ivanhoe players on the effort and spirit they displayed on the day. Special congratulations to Ben Jackson (yr12) on scoring both goals in his penultimate game for the School.”
And for the first time in eight years, our soccer boys will not be playing in the Grand Final. They played gallantly against top placed Trinity, only relenting to Trinity’s pressure in the last 20 minutes of play.
