Sports Report
If it was simply results that measured the success of school sport, then one might say that Ivanhoe was arguably the best school from last weekend’s round of matches. Six wins in our seven ‘Premiership Sports’ and a good tight win by our senior girls in football.
GIRLS
Despite a limited bench, our basketball girls performed exceptionally well on the weekend, comfortably defeating PEGS by 22 points. With Cecilia Baldassarre and Zoe Voden leading from the front, the girls led at each break and eventually stormed away for a good win.
The netball girls continued their good season with another commanding win against PEGS. The Shannon sisters (Ruby and Ella) were outstanding, whilst Aysha continued her good work around the goals. And with our captain unavailable through illness, it was great to see Elly McInerney and Demi Carr both leading the way with solid performances.
In soccer, the girls were simply too good for their opponents, almost scoring at will in a one-sided match. Switched on from the first whistle, the girls were dominant right throughout the match. It was great to see all the girls taking time on the ball and making some great plays. The goal now is to start being able to play “our game” against stronger opposition.
Unfortunately, our hockey girls came up against a very strong Wesley line up and despite some good attacking play, we couldn’t hold out Wesley’s forwards.
Our senior girls’ football team fought out a tight contest to just get over the line against a gritty opponent. Chiara Scuderi, Taylor Langford and Laura Mayne were all influential at various times.
BOYS
Our footballers made it ‘back to back’ wins with a solid performance against Yarra Valley. With Tom McKenzie and Matthew Johnson kicking two goals each, and Xavier Naish and Charlie Simonsen both dominating in their positions, we were able to come out 44 point winners.
In soccer, the boys had to fight back hard after Mentone scored in the first few minutes. Spiros Vlahos led the way with 2 goals, and he had great support from James Dafnas and Connor Campanella.
And finally, our hockey boys fought back after two losses against potential finalists to record a resounding 7-0 win against Yarra Valley. Tom Meadon (3 goals) and Fraser Asquith (2) were both dominant
