High School Musical
With just one week to go till the opening night of the production of Disney’s High School Musical on Thursday 26 April, Plenty Campus is buzzing with students and staff busily putting the finishing touches on the production. This adaptation of the hugely popular Disney franchise is sure to be upbeat with plenty of laughs for everyone. The production involves a lot of energetic choreography and rousing vocals as Director, James Chappel emphasised, “High School Musical is full of fun and upbeat music. That, along with the energy our students bring to rehearsal, has made it almost impossible not to have a whole bunch of fun.”
Year 11 student Bella is no stranger to the stage having performed in every musical since she was in Year 7. She is playing the passionate and eccentric Ms Darbus and is beyond excited, saying the best thing about High School Musical is, “the message it sends to both the people involved in it and the people watching. It advocates that everyone should have the right to do what they love despite expectations and social roles that have been predetermined.”
Taking part in musicals has many different outcomes, such as being a wonderful way for students to learn new skills and meet other students in different year levels. The Head Choreographer, Ella said, “The best thing about being in the musical was learning new people skills and developing unexpected friendships.”
First-time Musical Director at Ivanhoe Grammar School, Mr Ryland Sack is thrilled to be on board, so much so he is looking forward to the next musical “Our version follows the events of the original movie, with a few songs removed and a few new ones written in. I hope you all have as much fun listening to the music as I have had learning and teaching it. I’ve had such a great time working with all the production team, cast and crew, and I hope that I can work with them again on another musical.”
Make sure you don’t miss out on the spectacular that is High School Musical and the cast and crew also want to assure you that if you start to sing along during the performance not to be embarrassed as it may prove to be too tempting!
The musical is running from Thursday 26 – Saturday 28 April at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre, shows start at 7.30pm. Click here to book your tickets
