Celebrating World Kindness Day

On Monday 13 November, staff and children alike got involved in various activities to celebrate joy, kindness, and community on World Kindness Day. In particular, the conversations around kindness focused on the ‘ripple effect’ – that a single act of kindness can spread by breeding kindness in others.

“The purpose of World Kindness Day is to look beyond ourselves, beyond the boundaries of our country, beyond our culture, our race, our religion; and realise we are citizens of the world. As world citizens, we have a commonality and must realise that if progress is to be made in human relations and endeavours, if we are to achieve the goal of peaceful coexistence, we must focus on what we have in common. When we find likenesses we begin to experience empathy, and in such a state we can fully relate to that person or those people.” – Australian Kindness Movement.

The noticeboards around the school were decorated on the theme. Students drew themed pictures and played music together and were also encouraged to engage in ‘random acts of kindness’ throughout the day by doing something that would make another person’s day just a little bit better.

Some of the students wrote cards to their teachers to thank them for their hard work. What a great way to celebrate and spread kindness.
