UK Cricket Tour

Over 18 days in June, 13 Ivanhoe Grammar School students from Years 9, 10 and 11 travelled the length of the UK in the biennial Cricket Tour.

They played nine games against seven schools and visited many famous historic sites along the way including Edinburgh Castle, Manchester United Football Stadium, Buckingham Palace, Lords Cricket Ground and Stonehenge. The tour began at Gordonstoun School, in the north of Scotland, which is famous students such as the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales.

The weather in the UK, which can be fickle even in summer, was abnormally mild and consistent. This allowed for all games to take place with no interruptions during play for the entirety of the tour. All the matches were played in magnificent conditions, with carpet-like outfields and breathtaking surroundings. The outfields themselves were so manicured, that even first class cricketers would have been delighted to play on such surfaces.

The team itself was very successful, winning 6 out of the 9 games and there were a number of standout performances.

Throughout the tour the English hospitality was above and beyond expectations, making the trip even more memorable. From receiving huge meals and looking after the boys in the boarding houses, to organising fun billeting experiences, nothing was too much for our hosts.

Every member of the team made significant individual contributions and the team played some exceptional cricket. The boys learnt many valuable cricketing lessons throughout the tour, all of which will help them in their cricketing pursuits in the future.

The trip was an overwhelming success and the group will have memories that will last a lifetime. Special thanks should be extended to Les Dahl and Neil Buszard, who both worked tirelessly in months and years previous to the trip leaving, to ensure the tour was seamless and hassle free.
