AGSV Semi-Final Hat Trick
Boys Blitz the Semi-Finals!
For the first time since Finals have been introduced into AGSV boys’ competition, our boys’ football, hockey and soccer have made history for the school by winning their way into their respective Grand Finals in the same season. Congratulations boys on a job well done…to date!!
Congratulations to Roger Gill (Football Coach), David Plumb (Soccer TIC) and Ed Smithers (Hockey TIC) for helping to guide these teams through the season.

FOOTBALL
IGS 11.7.73 – DEFEATED – Mentone 6.13.49
Although going in as the ‘under-dog’, our boy footballers played a tough, hard fought game in unbelievably windy conditions to score a 24 point win against Mentone. The boys made the most of the wind in the first quarter and skipped out to a good lead; however Mentone fought back in the 2nd quarter to be just 5 points down at the long break. In the 3rd term, some outstanding goals saw us extend the lead to 43 points and whilst Mentone made good use of the wind in the last quarter, they could only get within 4 goals. A terrific win!

SOCCER
IGS 5 – DEFEATED – Marcellin 1
Unlike our football boys, the soccer lads went into their semi-final as slight favourites…and they played accordingly. The boys attacked from the very start, and although conceding a goal early, they were able to win the game comfortably 5-1. Another final…well done lads!!

HOCKEY
IGS 3 – DEFEATED – Camberwell 2
In arguably the tightest contest of all the boys’ semi-finals, our hockey boys played gallantly to hold off Camberwell’s last minute attacks, winning 3-2. Leading from the outset, and knowing a draw wouldn’t be good enough, our boys played smart, controlled hockey to win their way into the school’s first hockey final (since finals were introduced). This was truly a great win!
