Sports Report
In a hard fought battle, our boys recorded a strong win against arch rivals Assumption College. Leading at every break, and a little undermanned with Naish and Dreher unavailable, the boys played with grit and determination to fight off any challenges. As coach, Roger Gill said: “The boys really gave their all and in the end held on to gain a spot in the finals series”. Our final finishing position will be determined after the break when we play PEGS.
Our boys’ hockey team continued their good form with a strong 4 goal win against Marcellin. With terrific performances from Thomas Brightling (year 10) and Will Rutley (Year 8), and goals to the Meaden brothers (Jonah and Tom, 2 each), Max Dalheim and Ben Jackson (one each), the team is now well placed to make a serious impact in the finals series.
Unfortunately our soccer boys could only manage a draw against lowly Camberwell and have now dropped from 1st to 4th on the ladder. A win against Yarra Valley in the last round will at least ensure a finals position but the hope of a home semi-final will now rest on other results.
The girls soccer match proved to be a very intense and well fought game, but one in which we were able to scrape across the line! Louisa made some crucial saves in goals, and our defensive unit worked well to hold off the attacks from Wesley. We had a lot more chances up front, and it was great that Sarah Kendall was able to score a late goal to give us the win. Well done girls!
In other results, our netballers easily accounted for Geelong College, our hockey girls, although competitive, went down by 4 goals to Geelong Grammar and our basketball girls were brave in their narrow loss to Geelong College.
