Gallery of Achievement
The School welcomed three new members to the gallery of Achievers and also launched a new look Gallery of Achievement whereby current students and young alumni will be acknowledged for a short period of time on the screen in the Buckley Hall Foyer for excellence in academia, performance, sport or service to the community. A list of our new Gallery of Achievement members for 2017 is below.
Sam Bramham OAM Class of 2007
Sam is a distinguished athlete having competed at the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004 winning Gold in the 100m Butterfly and the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 winning a further three medals. He also competed in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006. He has broken the 100m Butterfly world record three times and the 400m Freestyle world record once. He was awarded with the Order of Australia Medal in 2009 for services to his country through sport. Sam is often back at School giving advice and encouragement to students.
Mr. Alan Pizzey AM Class of 1956
Allan’s family has a long association with the School. His father George William Pizzey was Dux of the School and School Captain in 1925 and became the first Alumni Chairman of the Board of Governors (the then School Council) in 1964. Many members of the Pizzey family have attended Ivanhoe and the family connection is as old as the School itself.
Allan has had a distinguished career in project management and many of Melbourne’s prestigious buildings were constructed under his supervision. He has also maintained a life time commitment to Independent Education having chaired Councils at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School and St Michaels. Allan was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2007 for services to Education in the Independent Sector and to the Building Industry, particularly in the field of Project Management and Consultancy.
Dr Tony Radford AO Class of 1972
Tony spent 12 years at Ivanhoe Grammar School and is a member of the Class of 1972. He attended LaTrobe University graduating with a Bsc (Hons) and a PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Biology. Working with the CSIRO as a Senior research Scientist he was a member of a team that invented the QuantiFERON method for Cellular Immune diagnostics. QuantiFERON is the registered trademark of the test for tuberculosis infection or latent tuberculosis. Tony has built an impressive career in biotechnology, holding executive roles in commercial research and development in the medical field. He is currently a Director of Nucleus Networks and the ASX listed company Genetic Signatures Ltd.
He is a distinguished Alumnus of La Trobe University (the equivalent to our Gallery of Achievement) and in 2016 was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to science and global public health through innovation, research and development of technology to diagnose tuberculosis.
Ms. Emily Bamford
Although Emily was unable to be in attendance on the day the School was pleased to announce that the first female will be welcomed into the Gallery of Achievers. She will be formally introduced later in the year. Emily Bamford was a three-time winner of the Australian New Zealand Cup overall Slalom title, competed at three World Junior Championships and has been a member of the National Alpine team since she was 16. Competing at the Olympics has been a long-term goal of Emily’s since she was 12. She represented Australia in the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi in two disciplines – Slalom and Giant Slalom. On being invited to join the Gallery of Achievement, Emily wrote: ‘Thank you so much for the offer, I’m thrilled to be asked and it’s so nice having Ivanhoe show their support’. We look forward to welcoming Emily to the Gallery of Achievers later in the year.
