Visual Arts Exhibition
The 20th Annual Plenty Visual Arts Exhibition celebrated the creative talents of students from all secondary levels at Plenty Campus.
The exhibition was officially opened by artist and art curator Sandy Caldow. Ms Caldow made a most engaging and enthusiastic speech showing admiration for the diverse work on display and emphasised the value of the arts. The opening evening concluded with the screening of films produced by Media students.
One of the highlights of the exhibition opening is the presentation of first place and runner up of The Randal Marsh Art and Design Award, the Acquisition Award and the Centenary Product Design and Technology Award.
This year, Connor Dunn (Year 12 Studio Art) was awarded First Prize of the Randal Marsh Art and Design Award for his series of outstanding drawings that explored the human attraction to the macabre. This was displayed by his depiction ‘gritty, blunt objects and a lethal concoction of electricity and water’. Runner Up was awarded to Rose Kenney (Year 12 Studio Art) for her installation that explored the euphoric state achieved through everyday experiences. The Acquisition Award went to Jacob Minarelli (Year 12 Studio Art) for his paining that explores mans relationship with nature. He did this through depicting a cowering figure trapped in an urban environment.
Through a generous gift to the School in its Centenary year (2015), The Plenty Campus of Ivanhoe Grammar School has been able to establish an award in Product Design and Technology. This award is to be presented to a senior student who has demonstrated outstanding examples of design development and production. In 2016 the recipient of the Centenary Product and Design and Technology Award was Year 11 student John Paras.
Now in its fifth year, the Old Ivanhoe Grammarians’ Association presented an encouragement award in the visual arts. This year Jessica Harris (class of 2008) and Wayne Vanderwert (OIGA President and class of 1989) presented the award to Ella Primerano in Year 10.
Excellence and encouragement awards were also presented to students from each of the years 7-10 visual arts classes.
