Celebrating Children’s Book week

Every year, around Australia, Children’s Book week is celebrated with the aim of bringing children and books together and celebrating Children’s literature. The theme for 2016 is Australia! Story Country and the week ran from Monday 20 August to Friday 26 August.

The Senior and Junior libraries from around the School came alive this week with interesting displays and fun activities, bringing students and the wider Ivanhoe community together. There were mintie wrapper competitions, visiting storytellers, theatre productions, Pavlova decorating, daily competitions, Australian movie sessions, star weaving for charity, parades where students dressed up as their favourite book characters and much more.

The talented librarians from around the School outdid themselves this year and it was wonderful to see students getting into the spirit of Book Week and showing enthusiasm for all the activities that were on offer.

Whether it was a Year 9 student entering a competition to guess how many pages were in the mystery book or a Prep proudly displaying their Book Week Hat based on their favourite book character there was something for everyone.

A big thank you to the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the week such a success, it would not have been possible without the energy and passion of the School’s librarians and the parents who helped create the beautiful costumes and hats for the parades.
