Big Day In for IT Students
On Tuesday 31 May a group of fourteen students from Years 11 and 12 went to the Big Day In at RMIT. This IT careers conference is designed by students for students. In conjunction with Microsoft, the event showcased innovative technologies being used in a range of industry and Victorian cultural institutions through activities, workshops and presentations.
It also provided information for ICT career pathways as required by new Digital Technology curriculum. Students were provided with career advice and expertise from some of the best in the industry from organisations such as Microsoft, Westpac and Deloitte, to name just a few.
They were also connected with some of Australia’s largest technology employers, small medium enterprises and entrepreneurial start-ups.
All the industry experts spoke passionately about how they started their careers in technology, the pathways they took to get to the positions they are in now and the realities of working in the sector.
It was a great day and the Year 11 and 12 students left feeling inspired and motivated.
The Big Day In event runs annually, all over the country with over 6000 senior students and undergraduates in attendance. In 2016 the event ran in 12 locations nationally.
