Red Shield Appeal 2016
As part of Ivanhoe Grammar School’s ongoing contribution to local charity, 60 students volunteered to spend their Sunday afternoon walking the streets surrounding the School to collect money for the Red Shield Appeal.
The majority of these students were members of Ivanhoe’s charities committee who meet every Monday lunch to discuss the School’s involvement in both local and international charity. Of the 60 students who happily took part in the Appeal, many were new to the corridors of the school with volunteers ranging from Year 7 right through to Year 12.
It was great to see active involvement from the younger year levels with encouragement from the Year 12 Prefects who also took part in the day. Dressed smartly in their uniforms, teams of four volunteers each took a Red Shield Appeal bag and ambulated the local streets with a smile on their faces.
The hard work of Con Zois, Ivanhoe’s Head of Co-Curricular Activities, and the enthusiastic volunteers from The Salvation Army not only made the School’s contribution possible but an enjoyable experience for all.
Each year The Salvation Army provides assistance to over one million Australians. Volunteers are the lifeblood of The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal doorknock. Across the country more than 4.7 million was donated this year.
