National Volunteer Week
As part of National Volunteer Week, which runs from Monday 5 May to Sunday 15 May, the School would like to celebrate and give thanks to all the hardworking volunteers who donate their time to many different projects and areas around the School.
Whether it’s helping out in the Environment and Sustainability Group, spending many hours after School helping with Sport or the School musicals, raising money for a charity, lending their time to a student who needs a bit of extra help to get their idea up and running, or volunteering in the library, Ivanhoe’s backbone is the many parents, staff, alumni and current students who give so much of their time and expertise to the School.
The theme for 2016 is Give Happy, Live Happy. Established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia and provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our community and to say thank you to the more than 6 million Australians who volunteer.
Ivanhoe Grammar School has always had a strong sense of community and of giving to others. The founding Headmaster of the School, The Reverend Sydney Buckley believed that academic excellence and the development of character were paramount and greatly encouraged a strong ethos of service to others. It’s wonderful to see that ethos remains the same after more than 100 years.
