ANZAC Day 2016
The 101st Anniversary of the ANZAC landing was commemorated on Friday 22 April at Ivanhoe Grammar School. The spirit of ANZAC was alive and well with commemorative services held at all three campuses.
The ANZAC day services are an important way for students and the whole Ivanhoe community to come together and reflect on and remember the sacrifices of those who have served military service. 904 old boys from Ivanhoe Grammar School were on active service during WWII of which 71 were killed and their names are read out and memories honoured during the School ANZAC services.
The day started with Buckley House hosting a service that is shared with grandparents of students from Prep to Year 2. The Cadet Unit posted a Catafalque Guard and read out the names of former Ivanhoe students who have lost their lives at war. It was great to see grandparents, students and staff being a part of this important occasion together.
Shortly after services were conducted at The Ridgeway Campus and at Plenty Campus. The Principal, Gerard Foley, spoke about the significance of ANZAC Day and remembering those who have served for our country.
The Plenty Campus Cadets will continue their tradition of supporting the Whittlesea ANZAC Day march, as well as the service at Laurimar and the dawn service at Epping on ANZAC Day. The Ivanhoe Cadet Unit is very much appreciated by the local RSLs and it is a wonderful opportunity for the Cadet Unit to make a significant contribution to local communities.
