IB Incursion

An annual highlight of our year, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Incursion week is a wonderful opportunity for Year 11 students to learn all about the very important tasks ahead of them. The main source of their learning comes from the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) presentations from the Year 12 students, as well as hearing about some of the innovative initiatives generated from this group of IB students.

This year, students had the opportunity to listen and meet excellent guest speakers who addressed a range of topics. Speakers included:

Nicole Donalson from Australian Volunteers International – Nicole is a returned volunteer and currently works at AVI as the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Susie May from National Gallery of Victoria – Susie is an Educator at the National Gallery of Victoria who regularly provides professional learning programs for teachers focusing on cross-curricular teaching and has lectured on museum education in Australia, India and the United States.

Clare Kermond from The Age – Clare is a senior writer and editor at The Age who writes across a broad range of social and cultural topics and has a background in political and industrial relations reporting.

Loren Bruns from Melbourne University – Loren is a final year PhD student in astrophysics at the University of Melbourne (with a specialist research focus on galaxy formation history) and a senior software developer at the Melbourne eResearch group. Moreover, he is currently a technical lead on the Australian Diabetes Data Network, a cloud-based registry designed to track treatments and outcomes of Type 1 Diabetes patients from childhood to adulthood.

We wish all the Year 11 students the best of luck and hope they found inspiration from the events.
