Students fundraise for OrphFund
The evening of 19 November saw Ivanhoe students exhibit outstanding creativity, service and support for OrphFund at the Auction Night held in the Rose Street Artists Market, Fitzroy. This event is an important fundraiser for the volunteer-run charity (which has a permanent stall at the Rose Street Market every weekend) and sought to raise critical funds for educational development projects in Kenya, Sierra Leone and Uganda including building two new schools. With over 300 donated items auctioned or raffled, acoustic music, delicious vegetarian food, drinks and an ice-cream cart on offer, the student’s cupcake stand was a special feature of this event – managed by the students and enjoyed by all attendees. Aside from lots of baking, our students promoted the event through social media and advertising within the School. Collectively, they raised approx $600 on the night for their cupcakes and learnt more about community and international development, first-hand. Whilst the night can be measured by funds collected (still being tallied!) lots of attendees endorse our students as inspiring youth with a clear social conscience and who demonstrated maturity and leadership in their involvement.
A massive thank you and well done to the following students involved:
Year 12 students: Lilly Hooper, Shiho Takahashi, Stefan Orfanos, Steph Falconer, Charlotte Henderson, Noura Tawfic and Anna Say
Year 9 students: Astrid John and Coco Veldkamp
And, to the students who baked cup-cakes but couldn’t be there on the night:
Aisha Farouque, Niamh Woodward, Olivia Corda and Issy Hogg
There was also support from alumni by way of attending and a significant amount of support from Fiona Ye C and Liz Luby, both from the Class of 2015 who did an outstanding job managing auction payments.
