How many million words can your House read?

The theme for Children’s Book Week this year is ‘Books light up our World’ and students at Plenty Campus will celebrate the launch of the ‘How many Millions of Words?’ Reading Challenge for Secondary students. Students are being asked to read at least one novel and up to as many as four, in order to reach the highest possible number of words read for their House.

The challenge will run for two months from the beginning of Book Week until Monday 26 October.

The winning House will not only win valuable House points towards the final aggregate but also receive a free BBQ lunch on a nominated day towards the end of Term 4.

The Rules

    ,,

  • The competition runs for 2 months, from the start of Book Week Monday on 24 August until Monday 26 October. Books read prior to this do not count.
  • ,,

  • Only the word count of completed novels count.
  • ,,

  • The goal is for all students to read at least one novel.
  • ,,

  • No student can read more than four books. This rule is put in place to stop the responsibility of success falling to just a few individuals.
  • ,,

  • Teachers may contribute to the word count, reading one book for their nominated House.
  • ,,

The Finer Details

    ,,

  • Where possible, word counts are taken from the following website: www.arbookfind.com/default.aspx this accounts for probably 75% of the young adult books read.
  • ,,

  • All others are calculated on the average number of words on a page times the number of pages – not perfect, but close!
  • ,,

  • Once you have finished a book, you must log onto Survey Monkey and answer a few quick questions. Click here to begin
