Cadet Promotions Course
A return from a well-earned break saw almost 270 students, together with 15 staff, journey north to Puckapunyal Military Base, to embark upon a series of courses designed to prepare Cadets for leadership roles in the School’s Cadet Unit in 2016.
A move to a new venue provided the facilities to deliver a diverse and challenging range of courses to Cadets, which saw the Junior Leaders’ Course afforded an opportunity to practise practical navigation, by day and night, in addition to being introduced to fundamental leadership skills.
Candidates on the Sergeant and Cadet Under Officer Courses, continued to develop individual leadership traits at more advanced levels, together with refining organisational and planning skills.
The camp culminated in a formal march-out parade, where high standards of dress, bearing and personal pride were on display in abundance. The occasion also marked other significant milestones. This parade marked the final occasion on which the Principal, Mr Fraser, would inspect and address a Cadet parade at the School. It was also the first Ivanhoe Grammar School Cadet parade in over 40 years that was not overseen by LTCOL David Waugh, as he passed the responsibility, and great honour, of command to Mr John Doman.
The legacy that David Waugh leaves is that of a strong and vibrant organisation, one that has given countless numbers of Ivanhoe students the opportunity to challenge themselves to be become better people and to give back to the School and the community. His leadership, guidance and inspiration will be sorely missed, by both students and staff alike.
The challenges that now lay ahead for the new Cadet Leaders, and in particular, the Year 12 Leaders, is to maintain and build upon the fine record of achievement that has marked the Cadet Unit over such a long period, as it has grown into the largest Cadet Unit in Victoria.
Based upon what has been achieved on this course, there is little doubt that the ensuing year will be exciting and successful, in the strong tradition of past years.
Congratulations to the Senior Leadership team:
