Students Help development projects in Africa
A small group of enthusiastic Year 11 and 12 students have begun volunteering on the weekend at the OrphFund Stall at Rose Street Artists Market in Fitzroy.
OrphFund is a volunteer based organisation assisting abandoned, orphaned and vulnerable children around the world. The organisation is a self sustaining, community project, that provides shelter, nutrition, health care, support, education and training to ensure all children have a happy and bright future.
By volunteering, these students are not only gaining a number of skills and learning about development projects in Africa (Uganda, Kenya and Siera Leone), but it also helps to fulfil a component of the Duke of Edinburgh award and International Baccalaureate program. The students were encouraged to volunteer via a Charities committee meeting and have assisted at the Market by selling photo-blocks from upcycled Australian wood and bucket-shaking at the entrance of the Market.
Relying purely on volunteers, OrphFund ensure that 100% of any donation will reach children living in poverty.
