2014 Australian Kayak Championships
Earlier in January Ivanhoe staff, over 35 paddlers and 15 families made the trip to the Goulburn River, Eildon to compete in the four day Australian Schools’ Championships.
Within the group were 10 first time paddlers from both campuses, a great effort from the junior paddlers and a credit to the Ivanhoe program as well as everyone involved.
With this large commitment expectations of success were high and the team performed to a high standard again winning the Overall Best School Trophy for the 10th year running and the Best Boys’ Team Trophy. Some further highlights – our Junior and Senior K1 ‘Teams’ beat New Zealand’s and Australia’s best. Tristan Carter won the ‘Best Senior Boy’ Trophy and will travel to Sydney for further Australian selection races.
This was a wonderful effort by the team as we farewelled Year 12 Captains Matt Haddon and Nathan Orso along with Year 12 paddlers Sarah Webster and Fraser Blampied.
In other exciting kayak news, Lachlan Bassett and Sam Grant have been selected in the Australian Junior Wild Water team travelling to the USA later this year.
Congratulations to David Gibbs, Peter Hogg and Ordette Webster on a fantastic team event.
