And the winner is…Sherwood!
Sherwood was victorious at the 2014 Years’ 3-6 House Athletics Championships held at the Collingwood Athletics track on Tuesday 19 August. The athletics day is designed for all students to compete and achieve their Personal Best.
In what was another fantastic athletics day at Buckley House, all the students in Years 3 to 6 pushed themselves through six rotational activities (High Jump, Long Jump, Discus, Shot Putt, 100m and 200m) to earn valuable points for their house during the morning session. The scores were close all day, with teams miraculously remaining within five points of each other through the morning session.
The afternoon events were called ‘Championship Events’ and were designed for those who excel at athletics and love elite competition. Two students from each house, for each age group were selected to run in three events: Hurdles, Long distance (800m) and 4 x 100m Relay. These championship events were for double points and ultimately decided the days result. It was great to see the tremendous house spirit alive in Buckley House during these events. There were many chants and songs and yells and screams coming from the stands, supporting all the competitors.
Three School records were broken on the day as well as some very close to the record. Some of the close results will get a chance at District, Division and Region Championships to get the record. The Buckley House school records date as far back as 1971 (boys) and 2001 for (girls) so they are getting difficult to topple. The three records are:
Age | Event | Student | House | Time/Distance |
Girls 9 Years | 200 metres | Tansy | Sherwood | 35.13 seconds |
,, Girls 9 Years ,, | ,, Long Jump ,, | ,, Lexy ,, | ,, Thoresby ,, | 3.36 metres |
,, Girls 12Years ,, | ,, Discus ,, | Emmy | Lincoln | 20.57 metres |
The final result:
